Incineration of ODS and HFC from recycled cooling appliances in Ghana
The rotary kiln installed and operated by ZEAL environmental technologies (ZETL) has been identified to be suitable for the destruction of ODS gases and disposal of hazardous e-waste fractions. However, the proper operation of the plant requires further measures. A dosing station is being installed in order to allow proper submission of gas into the incinerator. Furthermore, contousemmission monitoring system is being procured for process control and emission monitoring of certain parameters to comply with national legislation and international standards. Laboratory analyses of the input waste fractions used are necessary in order to adapt the waste mixture according to the system requirements and achieve a stable operation state. This tailormade system will be installed early 2025 leveling the way for pilot incineration.
In November an incineration expert has conducted a training with the employees of ZETL to prepare them for the pilot incineration. Furthermore, the head trainer of the Takoradio Vocational Training centre of excellence conducted training on refrigerant recovery. Making sure that tools and equipment that are already at place are being used in an environmentally sound manner.
These activities play a vital role in Ghanas ODS and HFC management Roadmap.
