Online Event
Publication: Methodology Report for Pilot on Refrigerant Recycling in China’s Automotive Maintenance Industry
- Methodology for emission baseline & scenario calculations
In this online event, participants got the opportunity to learn the details about the methodology developed to calculate the emissions baseline in the COPA pilot for recycling refrigerants from passenger cars serviced in a workshop in the Guangzhou metropolitan area in China. The cacluations and boundaries for the estimated potential emissions reductions from different mitigation scenarios where also explained.
The methodology was developed by Mr. Manuel Prieto Garcia from Heat GmbH.
The calculations are based on data collected for the COPAreport “Demonstration Report on Refrigerant Recycling in China’s Automotive Maintenance Industry”. The objective of the research was to estimate the HFC emission reduction potential from standardized recycling processes in the automotive repair industry. The full research study was presented and published in a separate online event on October 22nd, 2024, also available online here.
The refrigerant recovery efforts in the automotive maintenance industry are still in their early stages and this methodology can serve as a starting point for further research and pilot activities for recycling of refrigerants from cars air conditioners (Mobile Air Conditioners = MAC).
