ODS & HFC Projects Eligibility under Article 6

In a well visited online session on 5^th of September 2024, Ayse Frey & Jorge Lujan from Energy Changes presented the results from their study about the Eligibility of ODS/HFC destruction or reclamation projects under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

After providing a picture of where the world stands today about ODS/HFC gases management, including the technical challenges and the integrity of such projects, the presenters took a closer look at the potential of leveraging carbon finance to tackle ODS & HFC emissions, either through Article 6 of the Paris Agreement or through the voluntary carbon market.

Energy Changes is a COPA member and one of the highlights of the session was the Evaluation of COPA countries readiness for participating in Article 6 with ODS and HFC bank management project activities. The authors evaluated the identified potential by project type, diversifying between ODS & HFC destruction projects and ODS & HFC reclamation projecteligibility in Article 6.2 and the voluntary carbon marke
